Privacy Policy
Grocery Hawk is a grocery and recipe assistant, not a data business. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we collect it, who touches it, and how you can delete all of it whenever you want.
What we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work for you:
- Account email. Used to sign you in and, rarely, to contact you about your account.
- Password. We never store your password itself — only a salted PBKDF2 hash. We cannot read your password, and neither can anyone else.
- Content you enter. Shopping lists, pantry items, recipes, saved stores, loyalty card numbers, and your dietary profile. This data exists so the app can show it back to you and your household.
- AI prompts. The questions and requests you send to the AI assistant (for example, “what can I make with my pantry?”).
We do not collect precise location. Deals near you are based only on a ZIP code and radius you type in yourself.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of infrastructure providers (subprocessors) to run Grocery Hawk:
- Cloudflare Workers — hosts our website, API, and app. Requests to Grocery Hawk pass through Cloudflare's network.
- Supabase (Postgres) — the database where your account and content are stored.
- Google Gemini — generates the AI assistant's responses. When you send a prompt, that prompt (and relevant context such as pantry items you ask about) is sent to the AI provider to generate the answer.
- Open Food Facts — the open product database we query when you scan a barcode. Only the barcode number is sent, to look up the product.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data. To anyone, ever.
- We do not show ads or share data with advertisers.
- We do not use tracking pixels or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Loyalty cards, barcodes, and ZIP codes
- Loyalty card numbers are entered by you and shown only to you and the members of your household. We don't share them with retailers or anyone else.
- Barcodes you scan are used only to look up the product for you in that moment.
- ZIP codes you enter for “deals near you” are used only to serve that request — they are not used to build a location profile.
How long we keep your data
Until you delete it. Your account and everything in it stays available to you until you delete individual items or your whole account. We don't keep copies of deleted accounts around “just in case.”
Deleting your data
You have two ways to delete everything, and both are complete:
- In the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently and immediately erases your account and all household data — lists, pantry, recipes, stores, loyalty cards, and dietary profile.
- By email: write to contact@groceryhawk.io from your account email and we'll delete your account for you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the effective date above and note the change on this page before it takes effect.
